Occupational Health and Human Resources referrals
During your workplace contact with staff, you might decide that a referral to the Staff Counselling Centre would be helpful to enable them to access psychological and emotional support. This could be in response to work related or personal circumstances that are impacting on an individual.
Who can refer?
A referral can either be made by OHA/OHP or HRBP/HRA staff. You can also advise the staff member they can self-refer on-line.
The purpose of a referral
To help a member of staff access appropriate psychological and emotional support provided by an embedded university staff counselling service.
How to refer
Complete the relevant form from the links below (on the first page under name and date of birth, please enter the details of the member of staff you are referring).
If they would rather not disclose details of their need for counselling a general phrase is acceptable e.g., personal crisis; difficulties at work/home; loss etc).
You will be asked for a reference number for us to quote to confirm we have received your referral

Consent and Confidentiality
The referral form asks you to confirm that you have read the Employee Consent statement to the member of staff being referred and to confirm that they have agreed to the referral being made on their behalf. This also allows us to advise you when an appointment is offered, and should you require the information, whether the offer has been accepted.
No other information will be disclosed by the staff counselling centre about the staff member/their contact with the service.
Time frames for appointments
Wherever possible, clients are offered an initial consultation within 2 weeks of making an application.
The waiting time for weekly appointments following the initial consultation is approximately 8 weeks.
The service operates a triaging process to identify referrals that need to be prioritised.

If you would like advice or to talk through a concern, the Duty Manager will try to arrange a time to talk this through with you.

Missed appointments
Appointments cancelled without a minimum of 24 hours' notice will count towards the overall session numbers offered (8-10)
Support during Grievance and Disciplinary actions
Depending on the severity and impact of the situation, we will offer to support staff during these processes.
