About
Retirement is often imagined as a time of rest and freedom, yet for many it also brings questions about identity, purpose, and meaning.
"Life After Work: An Emotional Transition” is a reflective workshop offered by the University Staff Counselling Centre with the aim to explore the psychological and emotional dimensions of retiring from work.
Open to all staff approaching or considering retirement, the session offers a compassionate space to creatively explore how to move from endings toward new beginnings.
Key Workshop Objectives:
- To explore the psychological and emotional dimensions of retirement.
- To provide a space for reflection on identity, purpose, and meaning post-retirement.
- To normalize the range of emotional responses to retirement (e.g., grief, relief, anxiety, excitement).
- To foster peer support through group discussion and shared experience.
- To introduce tools from counselling and wellbeing practices to support transition.
This workshops will be in person at the Staff Counselling Centre, 2-3 Bene’t Place, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, CB2 1EL
